- As a group, you’ll complete research about this problem. Look for the following types of texts:
- online media
- journal articles
- expert blogs
- Compile links to research on a group Google Doc.
- One person creates doc and then shares with rest of group.
- To link a website/text/etc, write the “money words” of title in doc, click link button in toolbar (looks like a little chain link), and hyperlink file.
- Here you’ll need to comb through the research and pull out what you feel is strong evidence for your claim.
- Your goal is to find at least 3 quotes and 3 summaries of expert pieces of texts that you’ll be able to use to support the claim of your essay.
10/2 (in class): Essay Planning. (1 class period: independent and small group)

- Order your evidence - Using Evidence Guide
- Identify intro/conclusion material.
10/2 and 10/6: Essay Construction. (1 class period and rest on own) - Mentor Text
- Fill in the blanks in your essay outline.
- Add transitions and convert to paragraph form.
10/7: Peer Edit/Parent Edit/Self-Edit (1 class period)
- Must complete 1 self-edit before class
- Must complete 1 peer edit during class
- Must complete 1 parent/adult edit
10/7 - 10/8: Revision (on own)
10/10: Final Essay DUE
