Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, cheating on a test, copying another student’s homework, and copying/pasting from a website. Students found guilty of plagiarism/cheating will receive a zero on the assignment, a phone call to his/her parent, and an office referral.

Please make every effort to use the restroom or go to your locker before class begins. In the event of an emergency, you may take the pass by the door AND sign out and back in. Please do not abuse this policy. I reserve the right to revoke this privilege.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Be respectful...Be responsible...Be cooperative...Be accountable
REQUIRED READING
While some required texts used at Oak Hills High School have references to violence, racial tensions, sexual situations, ethnicities, nationalities, religions, dialects, gender, or class, all have been chosen thoughtfully and have literary merit. Serious texts, whether chosen by a teacher or by a student, are not excluded because of controversial subject matter or coarse language. If you would rather your child not read a particular chosen text, please contact his or her teacher to request an alternative title. -- OHHS English Department

GRADING POLICY
As per school policy, you and your parents should access Progress Book regularly. I update grades at least once a week.
- I use a weighted grading scale.
- Assessments - 70 percent
- Practice - 20 percent
- Speaking/Listening/Collaboration - 10 percent
PLAGIARISM/CHEATING
This occurs any time a student represents another’s language or ideas as his or her own. Plagiarism is literary theft. Students found guilty of plagiarism/cheating will receive a zero on the assignment, a phone call to his/her parent, and an office referral.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Please adhere to the following:
- It is YOUR responsibility to get all makeup work. As Honors students, you should exhaust all your resources to obtain your missing work: call a friend, text a friend, message a friend, visit this website, email me. Please note that excessive absences will have a negative impact on your grade.
- Known absence (doctor's appointment, field trip, etc.) - Please see me BEFORE you are absent to obtain the work you will miss. This is the courteous and responsible thing to do.
- Unknown, excused absence (illness, death in the family, etc.) - Please see me as soon as you return to school. It is highly recommended that you email me (if possible) if you will be absent for an extended period of time.
- Unexcused absence - I leave this to my own discretion. School policy dictates that a student receive a zero for an unexcused absence.
- You have as many days as you are absent to make up all of your work.
- If a test or quiz is given during your absence, you must make an appointment to come in either before school or after school to take the test or quiz. You may not use class time to do this. You have two days from when you return to make up a quiz and five days from when you return to make up a test. After this time period expires, you will receive a zero on the test or quiz.
LATE WORK
It is my responsibility to prepare you for college and the rigor expected at the collegiate level. Because of this, I have a very strict late-work policy.
- If you are absent the day something is due, I expect you to turn this work in THE DAY YOU RETURN TO SCHOOL. [Clarification: field trips/leaving early (aka known absences) should turn work in before leaving on field trips/going home.]
- I do not encourage late work; however, I may accept late work for a maximum of 50 percent credit (teacher discretion). After two weeks, you will automatically receive a zero. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED DURING THE LAST WEEK OF A QUARTER.
RESTROOM/LOCKER PASSES
Please make every effort to use the restroom or go to your locker before class begins. In the event of an emergency, you may take the pass by the door AND sign out and back in. Please do not abuse this policy. I reserve the right to revoke this privilege.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Be respectful...Be responsible...Be cooperative...Be accountable
- Treat all people in this classroom with respect and courtesy.
- Please raise your hand if you'd like to ask a question or make a comment.
- Be seated and ready for class with all appropriate materials when the bell rings.
- The teacher, not the bell, dismisses the class.
- Cell phones are to remain on SILENT (not vibrate) in your bookbag. If an activity allows you to use your phone, I will give you permission at the beginning of class. Never assume that it is acceptable to have your phone out. Please note: You get one warning about your cell phone (all year). After this warning, a phone call will be made home, and your cell phone will be collected at the start of class each day for the rest of the year.
